About The RoleThe Senior Policy Officer is a key position within our department, responsible for coordinating and supporting the development, delivery, and input into key policies and practices related to emergency management and resilience in the local government sector.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist the Senior Project Manager, Policy in developing the department's local government emergency management systems and frameworks to support preparedness and emergency management obligations.
- Work in consultation with stakeholders to provide advice and shape future directions for local government in emergency management.
- Provide input and advice on how best to support local governments before, during, and after emergencies.
- Represent the department at meetings within state emergency management arrangements and with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience and knowledge in emergency management and associated legislation, particularly as it relates to local government.
- Policy skills, including formulating and communicating public policy options and recommendations.
- Problem-solving skills, including seeking relevant information, liaising with stakeholders, and analyzing issues from different perspectives.
- Stakeholder management skills, including identifying issues in common and building mutually beneficial partnerships.
- Influence and negotiation skills, including gaining agreement to proposals and ideas.
- Written communication skills, including preparing complex briefs, letters, and reports.
- Current driver's license.
- Flexibility regarding start and finish times.
- Ability to be contactable and available for recall to duty within a reasonable timeframe on a 24/7 roster basis in the event of a significant emergency or business disruption.
- Ability to undertake nominated duties to support emergency coordination responsibilities during significant emergencies or security incidents.
