Job Overview

As a Senior Mental Health Clinician, you will play a crucial role in promoting wellbeing and delivering specialist mental health support to children, parents, and carers in remote areas of Far North Queensland.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Counselling: Deliver 1:1 clinical counselling, including play-based therapy for young people and their parents, addressing challenges such as stress, grief, and trauma.
  • Psycho-Educational Sessions: Provide sessions for school staff to better support children dealing with anxiety and other learning difficulties.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other providers to ensure comprehensive care and build strong partnerships to enhance the quality of service delivery.
Requirements
  • Registration with AHPRA or membership of the AASW.
  • A qualification in Psychology, Social Work (Accredited with AASW), Occupational Therapy, or Mental Health Nursing (Suitable for Mental Health credentialing).
  • Post-graduate experience of at least 5 years in a relevant clinical field.
  • Demonstrated experience in brief interventions, therapeutic counselling, case management, and mental health education with children and young people.
  • An understanding of issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing.
  • The ability to work autonomously and apply expertise and use creativity and innovation in therapeutic services.
