Job Title: Shipping Support Officer

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Shipping Support Officer to join our team at the Port Authority of NSW. As a key member of our Operations division, you will play a critical role in supporting the safe and efficient operation of our commercial sea ports and cruise facilities.

About the Role:

As a Shipping Support Officer, you will be responsible for providing information, support, advice, and guidance to port users on various harbour and port-related activities. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Processing applications, liaising with stakeholders, coordinating activities, and drafting documentation to support the planning, administration, and management of marine projects and events
  • Confirming Dangerous Goods (DG) training requirements are met
  • Processing DG notifications, auditing to ensure compliance, and administering notices and fines
  • Assisting in the management of incidents by providing logistical and administrative support
  • Supporting the development, maintenance, and improvement of the Port Marine Management Systems (PMMS) and meeting the administrative obligations under the Port Safety Operating Licence (PSOL)
  • Gathering, analyzing, and reporting key performance data
  • Building and maintaining relationships with port stakeholders and users (internal and external) including stevedores, shipping companies, and their agents
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Advanced MS Office (Word and Excel) skills
  • Well-developed administration skills
  • Previous experience within the Freight/Shipping industry with an understanding of Dangerous Goods regulations
  • International Maritime Dangerous Goods Qualification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience assessing technical information and interpreting regulations and standards - desirable
  • Previous experience with relevant aspects of Port Operations in a large commercial Port - an advantage
