Mental Health Practitioner

Job Overview:

Drouin Secondary College is a steadily growing rural year 7 to 12 school with 1211 students. The college has 94 teaching staff, including 5 Principal Class and 57 support staff.

The college has a strong focus on student wellbeing and mental health, with the Blackwood Centre for Adolescent Development providing a year-long early intervention program for students at risk of dis-engaging in their education.

The successful applicant will be responsible for enhancing mental health prevention and promotion activities in the school, contributing to whole-school health and wellbeing plans, and providing early intervention services for individual students and groups identified as at-risk.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement small group and whole-school mental health prevention and promotion activities
  • Develop and deliver programs and strategies to address student mental health and wellbeing
  • Provide short-term counselling services for students with mild to moderate mental health concerns
  • Coordinate supports for students with complex needs, both within and external to the school
Requirements:
  • Ability to implement a range of mental health prevention and promotion activities
  • Demonstrated experience in assessing, conceptualising and analysing wellbeing issues
  • Ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of people, including teaching staff, school leadership and regional mental health service providers
Selection Criteria:
  • Ability to implement a range of small group and whole-school mental health prevention and promotion activities
  • Demonstrated ability to input into the development, implementation and evaluation of processes and strategies aimed at enhancing mental health and wellbeing prevention, promotion and early intervention
