Counsellor Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Counsellor. The successful candidate will be an integral member of our Student Support and Wellbeing team, providing holistic care to students.

  • Provide high-quality professional counselling services to students who require psycho-social support.
  • Deliver advanced level psychosocial assessments and interventions for students and their families.
  • Take part in the development and implementation of activities aligned with mental health strategies promoted by Swinburne Health Service.

The Counsellor will work closely with the Associate Director (Health Services) to ensure the delivery of quality services that support the University's commitment to student retention and success.

Requirements
  • Extensive experience in mental health care, including crisis management and therapeutic interventions.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Victorian and National Legislation governing mental health practice.
  • Excellent triage skills and ability to work autonomously.
  • Proficiency in recording patient care details electronically and excellent organisational skills.
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills with clients, their families, and healthcare professionals.
Benefits

This is a part-time role, 6 FTE, 3 days per week. The incumbent will have the opportunity to work flexibly to cover practice working hours, which are between 07:00am and 06:00pm.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate:

  • A demonstrated commitment to community participation and ongoing engagement with consumers.
  • A commitment to participating in ongoing quality improvement activities of the agency.
Qualifications

You must hold a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Mental Health Nursing, Counselling, or a related field, with at least 4 years' subsequent experience.

You must also hold full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a mental health nurse, or equivalent qualifications and experience.
