Job Summary

The Finance Officer role plays a vital part in supporting the department's strategic financial investment in Victoria's health system, ensuring health service financial sustainability.

This position is part of a specialist branch that coordinates the financial performance of health services against the context of increased financial sustainability challenges for Victoria's health services.

The role reports to the Principal Advisor and works alongside a team of Finance Business Partners (Health Sector) and Financial Performance Analysts to provide financial management analysis in supporting public health services and hospitals.

This role assists in preparing and coordinating reporting tasks such as variance reporting, briefings, and ad-hoc financial information requests from internal stakeholders. This involves building and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure clear reporting and tight timelines are adhered to.

  • Financial Acumen - Demonstrated experience in providing financial support within complex organisations and ability to provide financial analysis and benchmarking that influences operational performance and outcomes.
  • Critical Thinking - Seeks resolution of problems through policy or process guidelines; otherwise seeks guidance by providing information and ideas relevant towards resolution of problem.
  • Communication - Uses various communication media to convey information, ideas, and insights in ways that maximise understanding of key messages; possesses good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Stakeholder Management - Responds to clients' needs; keeps the client or stakeholder up to date with issues and developments; promptly follows through on inquiries, requests, and complaints; takes responsibility for correcting problems promptly.
Key Qualifications

A bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting / Commerce is essential. Membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia (ICAA) or Certified Practising Accountants of Australia (CPA) (or actively working towards membership) will be highly regarded.

Exceptional data literacy and relationship building skills, with demonstrated capacity to work effectively within a politically sensitive context. Knowledge of the Victorian public hospital operations and the impact of government funding, policy, and reform on operations.
