About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Financial Officer to join our team at The University of Newcastle. As a key member of our Financial Services unit, you will play a critical role in shaping the financial future of our institution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the financial accounting functions across the University and its controlled entities.
  • Deliver high-quality technical accounting, compliance, and taxation advice to the University.
  • Provide financial insights to the CFO, senior executives, and Council, aiding critical decision-making processes.
  • Contribute to the strategic and operational direction of the Financial Services unit.
  • Own the Annual Financial Reporting process, external audit, tax compliance, banking functions, accounts receivable, and fixed asset accounting.
About You

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • A degree in accounting, business, or equivalent, along with postgraduate qualifications and professional membership (CPA, ACCA, or CAANZ).
  • Extensive management experience in financial accounting, taxation, compliance, and internal controls within a large and complex organisation.
  • Proven ability to deliver accurate financial reports under tight deadlines.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience managing and motivating teams.
  • Demonstrated capability as a trusted business advisor.
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills (Microsoft Excel) and proficiency in Office tools like Outlook, Power Point, and Share Point.
  • A commitment to promoting a safe, healthy, and respectful workplace culture.
