The Torrens to Darlington project is a monumental undertaking, delivering the final 10.5km section of the North-South Corridor. This continuous 78km motorway will revolutionize traffic flow in Adelaide, forming a lasting legacy for the community.
As part of this ambitious project, two separate tunnels – the Southern Tunnels and the Northern Tunnels – are being constructed, connected by an open motorway. The combined distance of these tunnels is 10.5km. The project encompasses not only the tunnels but also surface works, including road and bridge construction, as well as services buildings and complex mechanical and electrical infrastructure. We strive to provide opportunities for local people, Aboriginal workers, apprentices, trainees, and job seekers who have been long-term unemployed, giving them a chance to be part of this iconic project.
The Role:As a Senior Project Engineer for retaining walls, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful construction of retaining wall structures within the Torrens to Darlington project. You will provide technical leadership and engineering expertise to guarantee that retaining wall elements are designed and built to meet project requirements, safety guidelines, and industry standards.
Responsibilities:- Lead the design, review, and coordination of retaining wall structures in collaboration with the design team, contractors, and stakeholders
- Provide technical guidance and support to construction teams during the build phase to resolve any engineering or site challenges
- Ensure all retaining wall designs comply with relevant standards, codes, and project specifications
- Monitor the quality, safety, and environmental performance of retaining wall construction activities
- Manage risk assessments, method statements, and engineering documentation related to retaining walls
- Assist with preparing long-term programmes/sequencing for excavation works as required, providing productivity and cost inputs
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, and construction personnel to deliver integrated project outcomes
- Forecast costs and control responsible cost codes;
- Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and planning authorities to ensure satisfactory completion of structures and construction work
- Mentor junior engineers and provide leadership within the project engineering team
- Contribute to procurement activities, contractor evaluations, and stakeholder engagement
- A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, coupled with substantial experience (typically 8+ years) in construction on large infrastructure projects
- A proven track record in managing complex retaining wall engineering works, preferably within tunnel, road, or rail infrastructure environments
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to provide innovative, practical engineering solutions under pressure
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management abilities, with a collaborative mindset
- A commitment to safety, quality, and sustainability in all aspects of work
- Experience mentoring and developing junior engineers and working effectively within a multidisciplinary alliance team environment
