**School Counsellor Role**

School counsellors are a vital component of our educational service, providing individualised support and assessment to students. This complementary role aims to enhance student learning outcomes and promote wellbeing.

This collegiate position presents unique challenges and opportunities for professional growth and contributing to the education and development of children and young people.

Our team collaborates to achieve improved outcomes for children and young people, focusing on mental health needs, evidence-based interventions, and cognitive, emotional and behavioural assessment.

We seek School Counsellors with qualifications in Education and Psychology, including teaching qualifications, eligibility to teach in NSW Department of Education schools, and registration or provisionally registered psychologist status.

The essential requirements include:

  • Teaching qualifications and approval to teach in NSW Department of Education schools;
  • Registration or provisional registration as a psychologist with the relevant authority;
  • Demonstrated understanding of the mental health needs of children and young people;
  • Experience in counselling children and young people using evidence-based approaches;
  • Experience in cognitive, emotional and behavioural assessment of children and young people;
  • Well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including report writing;
  • Ability to work collaboratively and liaise with key stakeholders to improve outcomes;
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's policies and procedures;

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the mental health needs of children and young people, experience in counselling, and excellent communication skills.
