Job Description:

This is a fixed-term 12-month position at John Hunter Hospital.

The Specialist Physician in Emergency Medicine will provide comprehensive specialist care to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The role includes guaranteed rostered weekend and evening shifts (equivalent of 3.0 FTE available) in the Emergency Department.

The successful applicant will have exposure to a broad range of emergency medicine, including paediatrics, major trauma, critical care, and retrieval services.

John Hunter Hospital is home to the only trauma centre outside Sydney and delivers primary and tertiary trauma services to the Hunter Valley, Central Coast, New England, and Mid North Coast.

The hospital has strong research and training links with the Hunter Medical Research Institute and the University of Newcastle, supporting professional growth, education, and research opportunities.

The Specialist Physician will contribute to training, supervision, and ongoing clinical education within the department.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Must hold a primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA
  • Fellowship with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine FACEM or FRACP Paediatrician with a Specialisation in Emergency Medicine FRACP PEM
