Raine Island Recovery Project

This is a unique opportunity to work in a small project team to deliver the Raine Island Recovery Project, a priority project under the Reef Joint Field Management Program (RJFMP).

About the Role

The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service's Great Barrier Reef and Marine Parks Region and Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) operate the RJFMP for the management of the marine and island national parks within the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in delivering Phase 2 of the Project by providing input into the research methodology, work program, and reporting.
  • Undertake and lead field work, including monitoring programs on marine turtles and seabirds.
  • Identify research gaps and share knowledge through publications, reports, media, and conferences.
  • Deliver training and data management.
  • Liaise closely with the Scientific Advisory Group and provide secretarial support.
  • Support the governance of the Project and work closely with project partners, including RJFMP staff, Wuthathi and Meriam Nation (Ugar, Mer, Erub) First Nations People, other State and Federal Government Departments, and researchers.
Working Arrangements

This position will be based in Cairns, with travel to regional centres and other offices from time to time required. Overnight stays and work in remote areas on marine vessels and islands for extended periods of up to 14 days will be necessary.

You will from time to time work a roster outside of core hours and weekends.
