Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and driven Mechanical Engineer to join our team at the Newcastle Rod Mill. In this vital role, you'll be the technical expert and reliability lead for a designated area of the mill, driving safe, cost-effective, and efficient maintenance practices that directly impact plant performance and business outcomes.

You will be accountable for equipment reliability and asset performance, using data-driven insights to identify improvement opportunities, tackle root causes, and implement best-practice solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Lead safety practices and promote a 'Goal Zero' culture across maintenance teams and contractors.
  • Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance strategies to improve equipment reliability and availability to meet production requirements.
  • Identify and deliver continuous improvement projects and capital projects to ensure long term sustainability.
  • Manage budgets, maintenance costs, and spare parts inventories to optimise total cost of ownership.
  • Coordinate and execute planned shutdowns and repairs.
  • Provide coaching and technical guidance to the broader maintenance team.
Requirements
  • A strong background in mechanical engineering, preferably within heavy industry or manufacturing.
  • A proven ability to improve plant reliability through structured maintenance strategies.
  • Experience leading safety initiatives and ensuring compliance with WHS and environmental standards.
  • A strong understanding of RCA methods and Asset Strategies.
