BASScare is a not-for-profit organisation that provides integrated services to older people in their communities. As an Assistant Gardener, you will play a vital role in maintaining our beautiful gardens and grounds, while also connecting with our residents and clients.

The Role

This is more than just a gardening job - it's about creating a welcoming and engaging environment for our community members. You will work under the guidance of our experienced Head Gardener to ensure all properties, grounds, and gardens are maintained to the highest standard.

  • Provide garden and ground-keeping services, including plant cultivation, pruning, weed control, turf management, and soil management.
  • Assist with maintaining all gardens, including landscaping, mowing, whipper snipping, and hedging.
  • Clean and maintain water fountains, outdoor furniture, and other features.
  • Collect and remove garden waste, small tree branches, leaves, rubbish, and spills.
  • Interact meaningfully with our residents and clients.
  • Operate and maintain gardening machinery and equipment safely.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Certificate IV in Horticulture or similar qualification.
  • Some experience working in a professional horticultural environment.
  • The ability to learn about the needs of visitors and elderly residents.
  • Horticultural knowledge, plant and herb identification skills.
  • Experience using lawn mowers, whipper snipers, and hedging equipment.
  • Initiative and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Basic computer skills (Office Word & Excel).
  • A current driver's licence and satisfactory police check.
Hours of Work and Location

This is a part-time position, working 3 days between Tuesday to Thursday, 7:00am - 3:00pm, across multiple BASScare sites in Melbourne.
