The Surgical Wards Social Work position is responsible for providing high standards of care to patients and families attending the hospital. The role involves working in a multidisciplinary team to support patients and their families through challenging times.

You will have the opportunity to work with patients and families from diverse backgrounds and experience the satisfaction of making a positive difference in people's lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing high-quality care and support to patients and their families.
  • Working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with patients and their families to build trust and confidence.
  • Supporting patients and families through crisis situations and end-of-life care.
  • Collaborating with other departments to ensure effective communication and care coordination.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree in social work with eligibility for membership of the australian association of social work (aasw).
  • Demonstrated understanding of psychosocial issues associated with acute and chronic illness.
  • Demonstrated capacity to provide counseling and case management with patients/families with illness adjustment, end-of-life care, and complex discharge issues.
  • Demonstrated clinical experience or understanding of the psychosocial impact of grief, loss, and bereavement.
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues associated with working with culturally and linguistically diverse client groups.
  • Demonstrated well-developed time management skills with excellent written and verbal communication, including report writing skills, and high-level computer literacy.
