Job Description:

The Economics and Pricing branch of a federal government agency is seeking an Economist to deliver economic research and analysis supporting evidence-based decision making on complex economic and pricing policy.

  • Award-winning location with hybrid work-from-home flexibility
  • 12 month initial contract + 12 month extension, negotiable rates
  • Role open to Australian Citizens only

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with colleagues to address the challenges of the care economy and human services markets
  • Engage in theoretical and practical policy considerations regarding the NDIS supports markets
  • Apply statistical and economic modelling and research methods using large datasets
  • Design pilot studies to address information asymmetries and market failures
  • Collaborate across teams and departments to build shared understanding
  • Make significant impacts on Scheme resource allocation

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in economics, financial analysis, and insights
  • Proficiency with major statistical software packages (R, Python, Stata, SAS)
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills applied to complex economic issues
  • Structured thinking about quantitative and qualitative problems
  • Quantitative mindset with technical skills to handle and analyze data
  • Competence in building strong stakeholder relationships
  • Postgraduate degree in economics and econometrics or similar
  • Experience working on care economy challenges
