About the Role
The Senior Technical Officer will join the newly formed School of Engineering program being offered at Deakin University. This pivotal role will primarily focus on areas such as destructive and non-destructive materials testing, digital fabrication, and subtractive and additive manufacturing. As the Senior Technical Officer Mechanical and Digital Fabrication, you will utilize your expertise in materials science, digital engineering, and rapid prototyping to support the development and delivery of practical teaching, research, and administrative duties in the areas of Mechanical and Digital Fabrication.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, propose, coordinate, and implement technical solutions to support the strategic initiatives and operations of the School of Engineering.
- Provide hands-on technical support in a product realization and rapid prototyping environment.
- Proactively engage with teaching activities, in collaboration with academic staff, by providing specialist knowledge and training on how to work on equipment and engineering software predominantly relevant to the mechanical and material science engineering discipline.
- Ensure that laboratory equipment is maintained and operated to a safe and high standard and carry out minor repairs to equipment and coordinate with stakeholders within Deakin University or outside service engineers as necessary.
- Strive for excellence and consult regularly with clients to clarify who requires the information, the purpose for which it is required, criteria for success, and where and when advice and recommendation is required.
- Support various laboratory projects for teaching and research as required, including outreach, industry engagement, and inter-school activities.
- Acquire and ensure appropriate stocks of consumables are maintained, equipment is kept in good working order, and calibration and maintenance of a wide range of laboratory equipment.
Requirements
- A Degree with subsequent relevant experience; or
- Extensive experience and specialist knowledge or broad knowledge in technical fields such as Digital engineering, rapid prototyping, material science, and occupational health and safety; or
- An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Ability to work with and train research staff and students as well as provide guidance towards project safety during creation of project safety plans.
