Diesel Mechanic Job

As a diesel mechanic or apprentice, you will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical faults in engines and vehicle systems.

  • To excel in this role, you should have a strong understanding of engine mechanics and the ability to use diagnostic tools to troubleshoot issues.
  • You will work within a team to diagnose and repair engine and vehicle system faults, dismantle and inspect engine assemblies and components, and perform routine maintenance tasks.

The ideal candidate will have completed a trade qualification in heavy vehicle mechanical technology and have post-trade experience working on heavy vehicles.

  • A current driving licence is also required.
  • You must be able to read and interpret maintenance manuals and technical instructions.

We are looking for someone with strong time management and attention to detail skills, as well as excellent customer service and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and repair engine and vehicle system faults
  • Dismantle and inspect engine assemblies and components
  • Repair or replace defective parts and reassemble using service manuals and OEM specifications
  • Perform routine maintenance and basic tune-ups to enhance performance and meet emissions standards
  • Test and adjust mechanical systems post-repair
  • Utilise diagnostic tools and computer systems to troubleshoot and test vehicle components
  • Conduct vehicle inspections and prepare reports on required repairs
Requirements:
  • Completed trade qualification in Heavy Vehicle/Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology (Certificate III or equivalent)
  • Post-trade experience working on heavy vehicles (newly qualified candidates encouraged to apply)
  • Ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals and technical instructions
  • Current driving licence is required
  • Ability to work to schedules with strong time management and attention to detail
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Proactive approach, positive attitude and commitment to safety
