About the Role

The University of Adelaide invites applications for a Research Associate position, funded by an Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Project.

This role involves conducting innovative research using modern and sediment-hosted ancient DNA. Key responsibilities include constructing and analysing a DNA reference database for native flora on Kangaroo Island, South Australia, and analysing ancient DNA from sediments to develop novel records of vegetation change over the last 10,000 years.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A PhD or equivalent degree is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the analysis of ancient DNA from Quaternary (or older) sediments are essential.
  • Bioinformatic processing of DNA data is also necessary.
Desirable Characteristics
  • Expertise in one or more disciplines such as botany, fire ecology, landscape ecology, palaeoecology, climate change, paleoclimates, environmental change, or similar would be beneficial.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively across disciplines is desirable.
