Job Title: Cloud Hosting Specialist

CSIRO is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cloud Hosting Specialist to join our Web and Application Hosting team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and support secure, reliable cloud hosting environments.
  • Provide expert technical advice on cloud platform capabilities and enquiries.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement across hosting services and team practices.
Job Description:

In this role, you will be responsible for provisioning and supporting cloud and application services, providing technical advice on hosting-related enquiries, and managing the security and operation of cloud platforms and frameworks.

You will apply your strong understanding of platform capabilities and security best practices in your day-to-day work, whilst also contributing to ongoing service improvements and team development.

Duties Include:
  1. Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain cloud servers and hosting platforms—primarily Linux/Apache/Tomcat (80%) and Windows/IIS (20%).
  2. Manage cloud application lifecycle, including patching, updates, and troubleshooting of performance and security issues.
  3. Administer SSL certificates, monitor system alerts, and oversee resource planning and scalability.
  4. Lead proactive security measures, including embedded controls and participation in security assessments.
  5. Initiate and manage changes in accordance with IMT protocols and contribute to disaster recovery efforts.
  6. Contribute to the creation and refinement of service standards, procedures, and technical documentation.
  7. Promote a team-oriented environment by building strong relationships with peers, clients, and business owners.
  8. Work closely with cross-functional and regionally dispersed teams to achieve organisational and scientific goals.
  9. Communicate respectfully with all stakeholders to uphold CSIRO's values and reputation.
  10. Supervise and mentor junior staff, supporting skill development and high-quality service delivery.
  11. Liaise with clients to understand their needs, resolve issues constructively, and ensure satisfaction.
  12. Tackle complex technical challenges with initiative and drive continuous improvement.
  13. Uphold CSIRO's Values, Code of Conduct, Health, Safety and Environment policies, and diversity initiatives.
  14. Carry out additional duties as directed to meet evolving team and organisational needs.
