2026 Australian Government Apprenticeship Program

This program is an opportunity to start a career in the Australian Public Service (APS) with no pre-requisite qualifications.

The Australian Government Apprenticeship Program offers an opportunity to start a career in the APS. Coordinated by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, a single application enables consideration for apprenticeship roles across the APS.

This 12-month learning and development pathway provides a personal and professional growth experience. On-the-job learning and support throughout the program aim to diversify the APS by welcoming applicants from diverse work and life experiences.

Participants have the potential to launch a long-term career with the APS, with opportunities to learn new skills, advance, and contribute to meaningful work on issues that matter.

Duties And Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:

  • Contributing to team goals and participating in teamwork activities. Building and sustaining positive relationships with team members and clients.
  • Setting priorities, completing allocated tasks, and making decisions within defined parameters relating to the area of responsibility.
  • Working under general supervision and direction against established priorities and procedures. Exercising some autonomy about how work tasks are performed.
  • Understanding relevant legislation and policy frameworks. Providing advice using established policy and procedures as a guide.
  • Undertaking straightforward tasks which may have an element of complexity. Contributing to the improvement of quality and efficiency of services.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the program, you must:

  • Be an Australian Citizen.
  • Be willing to undergo any required checks, such as police or health checks.
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a valid Australian Government Security clearance.
  • Be prepared to study a comprehensive Learning and Development Program.
