Role Overview
As a vital member of the legal team at News Corp Australia, you will report directly to the General Counsel. This position is focused on providing expert legal guidance on a variety of corporate and commercial issues, with a particular emphasis on privacy, marketing, data management, and procurement processes. This role does not involve editorial legal responsibilities.
Your Responsibilities
- Deliver strategic and practical legal support and advice within a compact, high-performing team.
- Interpret external legal advice to align with the specific business needs and challenges faced by News Corp Australia.
- Support the General Counsel in ensuring the Legal Team functions effectively and strategically, including but not limited to:
- Managing external privacy inquiries and providing business-oriented advice on privacy and data issues.
- Reviewing content for the marketing and consumer teams.
- Offering procurement-related legal advice.
- Conducting contract reviews and drafting necessary documents.
- Creating precedents and developing internal training resources.
- Collaborating with team members to manage workload and assist with overflow tasks.
Candidate Profile
- Admitted to practice as a solicitor in an Australian jurisdiction, with a current practicing certificate.
- Possess 3-6 years of post-qualification experience, ideally combining both private practice and in-house roles.
- Exhibit strong skills in legal drafting, analytical reasoning, written and verbal communication, and negotiation.
- Capable of identifying legal risks and proposing practical, commercially viable solutions.
- Demonstrate robust commercial awareness and business insight.
