Role Overview

World Vision is seeking a skilled Community Development Project Facilitator to support the successful adaptation and implementation of the Unlock Literacy Model in partnership with Warlpiri communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mentor Warlpiri community facilitators and project partners to implement activities promoting literacy development.
  • Facilitate workshops to develop activities and resources supporting bi-lingual literacy development.
  • Establish and support reference groups in each community to build local decision making and accountability.
  • Collaborate with World Vision's Program Development and Effectiveness Team to capture and share learnings across project sites.
  • Coach and mentor local Aboriginal Community Development Facilitators to develop their facilitation skills and adapt project materials for the Warlpiri context.
  • Establish strong relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders and community leaders.
  • Ensure accurate recording of expenditure associated with activities.
  • Participate in reflection workshops and assist in documenting stories of change.
Requirements
  • Proven experience implementing activities in remote communities.
  • Demonstrated professional experience working in development contexts with children, young people, adults, and elders in remote Aboriginal communities.
  • Experience facilitating community consultations and influencing community participation.
  • Ability to interact with children and young people and gain their ideas and input in a fun and engaging way.
  • Creative and engaging group facilitation skills with a range of audiences.
  • Understanding of cultural, political, economic, and social issues affecting Aboriginal people in Central Australia.
  • Good understanding of and commitment to inclusive, equitable, participatory, and rights-based community development theory and approaches.
  • Ability to live remotely in Alice Springs NT and travel to remote communities at least 2 weeks per month.
  • Degree qualification in Linguistics, Behavioural or Social Sciences, education, or community development or equivalent experience.
