This is a high-profile role in the rapidly expanding data centre industry.
- You will join an Australia-wide leading provider of mission-critical facilities, trusted by major international hyperscalers and large multinationals.
- Take on a lead specialist role as a master of electrical engineering design, delivering impactful data centre projects while coordinating feasibility studies, proposals and managing design deliverables.
In this position, you will play a pivotal role as a key figure in electrical engineering design, overseeing consultants to ensure they engineer and design to required standards. You will be at the forefront of technology and electrical equipment development, using your knowledge to influence the direction of existing and future DC developments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage consultants ensuring they engineer and design to required standards.
- Stay at the forefront of technology and electrical equipment development; use knowledge to influence development designs and electrical design optimisation.
- Challenge electrical consultants with informed knowledge ensuring optimisation for customer requirements, cost management and efficiency.
- Contribute to design workshops including input into existing design standards and present actionable recommendations.
- Lead the review / amendment of Concept Designs and Proposals for Data Centres and Critical Facilities, co-ordinating with the wider Project and operational teams as required.
- Support the Bid Team by contributing to Proposals and Tender Responses.
- Develop electrical load balancing and assess overall impacts and capacities for new customer deployments.
- Provide insights into design risks related to redundancy and resiliency.
- Coordination with internal and external clients to determine proper requirements for projects.
- Construction site inspections and participate in Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
- Development of feasibility studies, due diligence reports, project scopes and risk assessments.
- Review drawing and modelling production work, including problem analysis.
- Work closely with engineering and project teams to complete and review projects on scope, budget and schedule, consistently applying relevant codes and standards.
Requirements:
- Minimum 8 years experience in electrical engineering design (data centre knowledge highly regarded) in a consulting role and/or technical engineering experience.
- Expertise in Electrical Engineering skills in managing all project stages for mission-critical facilities, with a special focus on electrical systems design, troubleshooting, and optimisation.
- Detailed understanding of uninterruptible power sources, diesel generators, electrical switchgear, power distribution units, and automatic/static transfer switches.
- Systems Knowledge Deep understanding of both low voltage (LV) and high voltage (HV) systems, including data centre redundancy principles like distributed and block redundancy. Proficient in fault level modelling and protection.
- Detailed understanding of relays, protection schemes, high-voltage distribution system, power and distribution transformers, earthing and switching.
- Advanced understanding of technical engineering and codes/standards as they relate to data centre environments.
