About the Role
The Student Welfare Officer plays a vital role in supporting the well-being of students at St Thomas More's Primary School. This position involves providing pastoral care services and implementing strategies to promote the broader school community's mental health and emotional well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality pastoral care services to students.
- Develop and implement initiatives to enhance the school community's social and emotional well-being.
- Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to provide student support.
- Coordinate volunteer activities and events that foster relationships between students, parents, and the community.
- Develop and facilitate workshops and meetings to engage with parents and carers.
Requirements
- Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) and Working with Children's Check (WWCC) registrations.
- Completed Certificate IV Youth Work; or
- Completed Certificate IV Pastoral Care; or
- Diploma or Bachelor in a relevant field.
Selection Criteria
- Excellent management and organisational skills that create supportive and safe environments, including managing challenging student behaviours and meeting a variety of social and emotional needs.
- Understanding of and ability to implement student support programs.
- Capacity to respond creatively to the needs of the school in the social and emotional wellbeing of students.
- Ability to contribute towards the wider school community, to build and strengthen school's relationship with parents, parish, and community.
- Awareness of initiatives and developments in research pertaining to social and emotional learning, and trauma related behaviours in children.
