The Opportunity


We are seeking an experienced Environmental Sustainability Officer to join our Waste Services team on a permanent, full-time basis. In this role, you will be responsible for implementing initiatives to reduce contamination in food and garden waste bins, ensuring alignment with local government policies and community needs.


You will work closely with stakeholders, including local authorities, waste management companies, community organizations, and residents, to foster collaboration and improve resource recovery outcomes. Your key focus will be on education and behavior change strategies to minimize contamination in waste disposal practices.


Key Responsibilities



  • Develop and implement programs or initiatives to reduce contamination in food and garden waste bins
  • Work with stakeholders to foster collaboration and improve resource recovery outcomes
  • Design and deliver education and behavior change strategies to minimize contamination in waste disposal practices
  • Monitor and report on program progress and outcomes

Requirements


To be successful in this role, you will need:



  • A minimum Cert IV qualification in an environmental, educational discipline or related discipline
  • Relevant local government or industry experience
  • Project and resource management experience, including demonstrated ability to deliver related projects within timeframes with reporting outcomes
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders
  • Able to build relationships, promote awareness, and address concerns effectively
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, set goals, and ensure timely completion of milestones
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and experience in communication with difficult clients in person and by telephone
  • Demonstrated experience in oral and written communication skills
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Current NSW drivers' licence (Class C)
