Job Description:

The Career Development Specialist will be responsible for providing career support services to clients. This includes understanding and executing project objectives, developing programs aligned with contract deliverables, managing feedback mechanisms, engaging with employers, and one on one career development/counselling with eligible clients.

  • Understand, execute, and update as needed project objectives and deliverables
  • Work with a Retention Facilitator to develop programs aligned with contract deliverables
  • Manage feedback mechanisms to reflect and improve on project objectives
  • Engage with employers across the region, building relationships and partnerships where necessary
  • One on one career development/counselling with eligible clients (resume/cover letter creation, recognizing transferable skills, interview prep, tailored guidance to client's specific career goals)
  • Creating and fostering connections to professional networking opportunities; act as liaison between client and employer
  • Organize and deliver skill development workshops (effective job search strategies, workplace culture, communication skills)
  • Research and evaluation (identify employer/specific sector needs, identify barriers to entry into the workforce)
  • Organize two cohorts of clients for targeted/sector focused employment education

Other responsibilities include participating in team meetings, looking for potential improvements, maintaining quality and confidentiality, portraying an organization in a positive manner, updating job knowledge, responding to the needs of others, promoting the mission and values of the organization, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include a college diploma or university degree in a related field, a current clear Criminal Record Check, compassion, empathy, diplomacy, problem solving, experience working with vulnerable populations, ability to work independently, attention to detail, verbal and written communication skills, and proficiency with Microsoft suite of programs and applications.
