About Clinical Genetics Service at Austin Health

Austin Health Clinical Genetics Service coordinates and delivers clinical genetics services across various health services. This includes family cancer clinics conducted at regional locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide genetic counselling to individuals seeking information about their family history of cancer and other genetic disorders in line with current standard of care.
  • Collect and maintain accurate patient information for clinic appointments.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including clinical geneticists, oncologists, medical specialists, genetics fellows, data managers, and administrative staff, to provide an effective genetic counselling service.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Genetic Counselling or a Diploma of Genetic Counselling with either attained or working towards HGSA Board Certification, Fellow HGSA (FHGSA).
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of genetic counselling principles, including medical, genetic, and psychosocial aspects.
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Patient-focused, compassionate attitude.
  • Confident, innovative approach to work.
