Bendigo, Victoria, Australia Djirra 2020 Full time
About the Organisation

Djirra is a pioneering Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation with over two decades of experience supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and their children on their individual journeys.

We empower women to share their stories, journeys, and experiences, finding solutions through collective strength and resilience.

Our mission is to create a future without family violence, delivering holistic, culturally safe, specialist family violence support, legal services, and case management.

We have a state-wide reach, touching every part of Victoria to meet the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women.

Self-determination is the foundation of everything we do, amplifying the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and advocating for system-wide change.

About the Role

The Aboriginal Family Violence Legal Service (AFVLS) is a program of Djirra, providing legal and non-legal assistance and facilitating access to justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have experienced family violence or sexual assault.

AFVLS operates a culturally safe, trauma-informed, holistic, and intensive client service model, assisting clients with complex needs and issues.

Lawyers and Paralegal Support Workers work together to provide legal services, including advice, representation, and advocacy in areas such as child protection, family violence intervention orders, family law, and victims of crime assistance.

Senior Lawyers supervise legal and non-legal work, ensuring high-quality services for our clients.

We strongly encourage Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people to apply for this role.
