In the J.R. Simplot Company, we are passionate about cultivating a future where good ideas and inspiring possibilities have the chance to grow. We are seeking a Senior Food Technologist - Value Engineering to join our dynamic Food Innovation team, based at our Head Office in Mentone.

This role will lead and drive identification and initial scoping of value improvement initiatives in collaboration with key stakeholders, aimed at enhancing margins and sales performance for the business via cost or product improvements.

The ideal candidate will have a proven background in product value engineering, continuous improvement, or related fields, with a fundamental grasp of project management methodologies and quality systems. They will be adept at engaging stakeholders to drive value enhancements and take ownership of applying robust technical expertise from conceptualization through execution and data analysis.

The successful candidate will be proficient in stakeholder relations and effectively engage, building relationships and using persuasive communication to align their interests with team goals and gain support for initiatives. They will be confident in presenting innovative ideas and opportunities both formally and informally.

We offer a hybrid work environment, with 3 days in the office / Wednesday being a set 'connect day' where we all come together to maintain our successful culture of innovation, connection and collaboration.

About our role

This role is part of our Food Innovation team, which is responsible for driving innovation and value improvement across our business. The successful candidate will be working closely with cross-functional teams to identify and develop opportunities for cost savings and revenue growth.

Key responsibilities

  • Drive Innovation: Consolidate and analyse data to identify and develop valuable opportunities.
  • Facilitate Workshops: Lead cross-functional brainstorming sessions to spark new ideas and solutions.
  • Assess Feasibility: Own high-level evaluations to test concepts and feasibility.
  • Collaborate with Suppliers: Partner with external vendors to co-create cost-effective solutions.
  • Create Briefs: Develop detailed briefs to guide teams through our stage-and-gate process efficiently.
  • Communicate Effectively: Keep sponsors and stakeholders updated on project progress, addressing risks, consumer feedback, financial impacts, milestones, and challenges.
  • Align Priorities: Understand and align with internal stakeholders to meet customer and consumer needs.
  • Lead Programs: Oversee complex, long-term projects through to various execution phases.
  • Financial Oversight: Work with finance teams to build and verify financial models.
  • Technical Leadership: Manage technical aspects of projects and ensure compliance with quality and technical standards.
