Program Overview

We are seeking a talented Cyber Security Specialist to participate in our Australian Security Accelerator Program. As a key member of the team, you will contribute to national security projects and transition into a permanent cybersecurity role.

Key Responsibilities
  • You will support real-world cyber mission work on projects such as threat analysis, secure system design, vulnerability assessments, incident response preparedness, or cyber capability development.
  • You will apply cyber principles to improve government and defence partners' ability to defend against threats, mitigate risk, and build operational resilience.
  • You will collaborate with technical teams across domains to integrate security into system architectures and mission workflows.
  • You will conduct assessments of cyber maturity and posture, aligning with the Essential Eight and Information Security Manual (ISM).
  • You will investigate technical issues, evaluating system vulnerabilities and assessing potential impacts of emerging threats.
  • You will engage in mentorship with MITRE cybersecurity professionals for technical and professional development support.
  • You will gain knowledge of the broader national security ecosystem, including Defence capability development, intelligence operations, and allied collaboration frameworks like AUKUS.
Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree (AQF Level 7 or higher) in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Early to mid-career experience, with strong foundational skills or several years of hands-on cybersecurity experience.
  • A working knowledge of cybersecurity fundamentals, including network architecture, system hardening, identity management, cryptography, and vulnerability management.
  • Experience using or familiarity with tools and frameworks, such as SIEM platforms, endpoint detection, penetration testing tools, or threat modelling methodologies.
  • A strong understanding of Australian Government cybersecurity policies and guidance, including the ISM and Essential Eight.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive mindset for identifying risks and securing systems.
  • The ability to clearly communicate technical concepts and collaborate in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Eligibility to obtain an Australian Government NV2 security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A completion of an Honours, Master's, or PhD in Cybersecurity or a closely related field, or 5+ years of relevant post-Bachelor's professional experience.
  • Hands-on experience in cybersecurity engineering or architecture, threat intelligence, vulnerability research, adversary emulation, incident response, blue team operations, penetration testing, or cyber maturity assessments aligned with Australian government frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Australian Defence cyber capabilities and cybersecurity priorities across Defence, Intelligence, or national resilience agencies.
  • Awareness of allied cybersecurity collaboration in contexts like AUKUS or Five Eyes, or an interest in supporting international mission integration.
