About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Traffic Engineering Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our transport infrastructure team, you will provide professional traffic engineering advice and make your mark on the City's transport system.

Working closely with other engineers, you will design and implement operational and innovative solutions to ensure the City's transport system is safe, efficient and sustainable.

You will be involved in road infrastructure improvements, traffic system upgrades, active transport, public transport and road safety infrastructure projects.

Main Responsibilities

  • Determine effective solutions to complex traffic management, road safety, parking, pedestrian, cyclist and public transport issues.
  • Conduct autonomous field investigations to identify problems and opportunities for improvement.
  • Evaluate infrastructure design drawings to ensure compliance with relevant standards and policies.
  • Develop and review signage and line marking plans to improve road safety and efficiency.
  • Perform road safety audits, crash investigations and speed limit reviews to inform transport policy and decision-making.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including residents, Councillors and State Government agencies.
  • Contribute to the development of internal policies and procedures related to transport and traffic engineering.
  • Respond to customer and Councillor requests using Council's customer request management software.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence in relation to transport and traffic engineering matters, including Committee Agenda Items.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or demonstrated equivalent experience and knowledge working in the traffic and transport sector.
  • A current unrestricted Class 'C' drivers licence so you can drive to site.
  • A General Construction White Card (WHS Licence).
  • A positive attitude and passion for health and safety.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to solve complex problems and confidence to provide sound advice, options and recommendations to influence positive outcomes.
  • Proven ability to form good working relationships with key stakeholders and service providers both internal and external.
