Concept Design Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Concept Design Specialist to join our team at Rio Tinto, a leading global mining company. As a key member of our Renewable Energy Western Australia (REWA) team, you will play a critical role in driving our business towards a greener future.
Key Responsibilities- Lead engineering design and identify concept design solutions to ensure a safe, secure, and reliable power system is maintained throughout the renewable energy transition.
- Develop robust concept solar PV, BESS, or wind designs according to budgets, schedules, and quality.
- Demonstrate trust and teamwork to optimize designs and technical configurations in conjunction with the REWA team, Iron Ore product group, functional support groups, and utility teams.
- Review, direct, and provide technical assurance of consultant deliverables to support study teams on various renewable projects.
- Ensure all approval processes are followed and designs comply with Rio Tinto standards and industry best practice.
- Develop engineering scopes of work, collate and incorporate lessons learned, draft, and review major equipment specifications and technical specifications.
- You will have an innovative mindset with experience in solar and wind farm electrical design and associated renewable energy modeling software tools, such as OpenWind, WindPRO, PVSyst, PlantPredict, HST, AutoCAD, 3D Modeling, and ArcGIS.
- You will have experience with integrating renewable energy projects to transmission networks, considering grid connection and operations.
- You will have experience with solar and wind farm project evaluation and facilitating handover of concept design and development work for early-stage study phases.
- You will have high levels of accuracy and attention to detail, strong report writing skills, and the effective use of graphical information.
- You will be able to build and maintain effective relationships across all levels of the business.
- Prior experience in a similar role or a related discipline is preferred.
