The Department of Education is seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term vacancies in the North East Metropolitan Language Development Centre (NEMLDC).
NEMLDC is a specialist school providing speech, language, and academic intervention for children with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD). Staff work collaboratively to develop oral language skills supporting literacy.
As an Education Assistant, you will support schools and teachers managing programs for students at risk under supervision. You will design and implement behaviour management plans, assist students in acquiring self-management skills, and consult with parents and caregivers.
You will also provide physical restraint and removal of students when necessary, inform parents about education system and school policies, and maintain detailed records of plan implementation.
This role requires effective communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills. You will be capable of working independently and as part of a professional team.
Applicants must have Australian or New Zealand citizenship, permanent residency, or a valid visa with relevant work rights. A Working With Children Check and Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check are also required.
