As a company going through an exciting period of growth, we need a Group Leader – Secondary Engineering to join our team.

This role will see you leading a team of protection and controls engineers providing project engineering and technical support in the delivery of transmission substations and lines projects. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Project Oversight: Overseeing project execution, ensuring compliance with technical requirements, and coordinating with other disciplines.
  2. Scope Development: Developing scopes and specifications for designs, managing documentation, and reviewing production of project deliverables.
  3. Design Assessment: Reviewing and assessing brownfield and greenfield electricity substation designs, providing technical input into staging, constructability, operability, maintainability, and safety.
  4. Technical Guidance: Providing technical guidance and support to the team, applying protection and control technical engineering knowledge to ensure efficient solutions can be reached on complex design projects.
  5. Team Enablement: Enabling team success by proactively engaging with and providing protection and control technical engineering advice to the team and broader department.
  6. Budget Planning: Managing budget and forecast within guidelines.
  7. Leadership and Development: Leading, coaching, and mentoring personnel within the team, sharing knowledge, and developing the team's experience and expertise.
  8. Stakeholder Relationships: Developing and maintaining strong relationships with key internal stakeholders.
  9. Project Development Support: Contributing to the project development of scopes and estimates for Transmission substation projects led by a Project Development team.

About You

You don't need to tick every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:

  1. A tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering.
  2. Deep technical knowledge and experience in the field of secondary engineering, particularly protection and control of substations and transmission lines.
  3. Extensive experience working in electricity substations engineering, project delivery, and/or design role.
  4. Understanding current and emerging network and non-network solutions required to reduce network demand and avoid/deferred network investment.
  5. Advanced commercial acumen, stakeholder engagement, and understanding of network constraints to identify appropriate solutions to address the needs of the network and customers.
  6. Ability to lead a successful engineering team and ability to develop, coach, mentor, empower, and support colleagues and team members to achieve common goals.
  7. Detailed understanding of project lifecycles and application of engineering principles with extensive design and construction knowledge covering performance, functionality, operation, maintenance, and risks.
  8. Proven capability in development of concepts and/or delivery of designs.
