Protection and Controls Engineering Group Leader

We connect renewable energy sources to local communities, driving the clean energy transition. As a major player in Australia's energy landscape, we need a skilled Group Leader – Secondary Engineering to help us grow.
This role involves leading a team of protection and controls engineers, providing project engineering and technical support in the delivery of transmission substations and lines projects. Key responsibilities include:
- Technical Leadership: Providing technical leadership and guidance to the team, applying protection and control technical engineering knowledge to ensure efficient solutions can be reached on complex design projects.
- Project Execution: Overseeing project execution, ensuring compliance with technical requirements, and coordinating with other disciplines.
- Design Review: Reviewing and assessing brownfield and greenfield electricity substation designs, providing technical input into staging, constructability, operability, maintainability, and safety.
- Team Development: Developing and mentoring personnel within the team, sharing knowledge, and developing the team's experience and expertise.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Developing and maintaining strong relationships with key internal stakeholders.
- Budget Management: Managing budget and forecast within guidelines.
- Leadership and Coaching: Leading, coaching, and mentoring personnel within the team, sharing knowledge, and developing the team's experience and expertise.
- Project Development: Contributing to the project development of scopes and estimates for Transmission substation projects led by a Project Development team.
About You
You don't need to tick every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:
- A tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering.
- Deep technical knowledge and experience in the field of secondary engineering, particularly protection and control of substations and transmission lines.
- Extensive experience working in electricity substations engineering, project delivery, and/or design role.
- Understanding current and emerging network and non-network solutions required to reduce network demand and avoid/deferred network investment.
- Advanced commercial acumen, stakeholder engagement, and understanding of network constraints to identify appropriate solutions to address the needs of the network and customers.
- Ability to lead a successful engineering team and ability to develop, coach, mentor, empower, and support colleagues and team members to achieve common goals.
- Detailed understanding of project lifecycles and application of engineering principles with extensive design and construction knowledge covering performance, functionality, operation, maintenance, and risks.
- Proven capability in development of concepts and/or delivery of designs.
