Our client is a leading contractor specializing in civil construction and mining services to major miners in the Pilbara region. With an extensive fleet of plant and equipment, and business units in Perth and the wider Pilbara area, they are well-positioned for continued growth.

Job Overview

The company is seeking a seasoned Operations Manager to lead their Karratha-based business unit, overseeing a team of circa 40 employees, including project managers and trades personnel. This role involves delivering civil construction and mining services projects to clients such as Rio Tinto in Western Australia's resources sector.

Candidates with prior experience in senior management roles for civil and mining contractors will be highly regarded. A strong understanding of projects involving bulk earthworks, structural concrete works, plumbing, and waste management is essential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Liaise with General Managers and Project Managers to drive business growth.
  • Oversee daily operations and make necessary adjustments.
  • Execute the business growth plan while achieving P&L objectives.
  • Lead project planning meetings and operations meetings.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to team members.
  • Create a positive work environment and provide opportunities for employee growth.
  • Develop and monitor business and personal KPIs aligned with the business and strategic plans.
  • Promote the company's products and services addressing client needs and objectives.
  • Exceed yearly departmental sales and client KPIs.
  • Maintain effective links with major customers, government departments, and stakeholders.
  • Ensure quality control and participate in quality issue resolution.
  • Coach and mentor employees as required.
Requirements:

Candidates should possess:

  • 3-5 years' experience in a similar/senior management role.
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field.
  • Trade qualification in construction or relevant practical experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and MS Project.
  • Experience working on civil and mining projects in WA's resources sector.
  • Australian main contractor experience.
  • Familiarity with tenders, contracts, and operations.
