Position Overview:

We are currently looking for a highly experienced Senior Civil Engineer to become part of our Capital Projects division on a contract basis, focusing on our mining initiatives, including the construction of haul roads.

In collaboration with the Project Engineering Manager, you will be tasked with delivering effective solutions and ensuring high-quality engineering results for designated projects. This role is project-oriented and requires teamwork with construction, commissioning, and asset management teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and refine project and engineering scopes to ensure they meet necessary standards.
  • Develop scope documents for the execution of engineering tasks.
  • Lead or assist in managing engineering outputs through external service providers.
  • Optimize value from Engineering Service Providers (ESPs) by actively monitoring performance and minimizing variations.
  • Support the preparation of operational readiness documentation.
  • Ensure engineering design quality through expertise and adherence to established standards.
  • Confirm compliance with specifications and limit unnecessary scope items.
  • Prepare responses to technical inquiries from contractors within contractual timelines.
  • Enhance the reusability of engineering designs.
  • Aid in the construction, commissioning, and handover phases of projects.

Core Activities include:

Engineering and Design:

  • Contribute to safe, timely, cost-effective, and technically sound designs.
  • Maximize design reusability to lower future expenses.
  • Ensure project designs align with specifications and contractual obligations.

Design Management:

  • Align design strategies with project phases and optimize deliverables prior to design initiation.
  • Oversee the design change process and ensure timely return of design deliverables.
  • Support operational readiness by evaluating spare parts, maintainability, and operational costs.

Safety and Environment:

  • Consider safe construction practices during the design phase.
  • Engage in hazard identification and risk assessment processes.
  • Foster a comprehensive safety culture within the Capital Group.

Technology & Standards:

  • Implement current best practices and standards in design and maintainability.
  • Ensure adherence to Engineering Standards and Regulatory Requirements.

Procurement & Contracting:

  • Manage engineering in accordance with specifications and contracts.
  • Review, evaluate, and prepare engineering specifications.
  • Ensure alignment of engineering outputs with the overall procurement strategy and contracts.

Construction, Commissioning, and Handover:

  • Assist in formulating construction plans and ensuring the design's constructability.
  • Monitor cost implications related to design changes initiated by construction.
  • Define and ensure the completion and return of required as-built documentation.

What You Bring:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders.
