Key Responsibilities

As the Lead Financial Strategist, you will work closely with the Head of Financial Planning & Analysis to assist the Chief Commercial Officer and their management team in optimizing planning, efficiency, productivity, revenue generation, and cost control across various departments. The ideal candidate will conduct in-depth analyses, provide valuable insights and recommendations, engage with senior management, and identify risks and opportunities to enhance overall performance. This role is integral to our high-achieving Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team.

Additional Duties Include:

  • Holding partners accountable for performance metrics and budgets while offering support to identify and mitigate risks
  • Managing the planning and reporting processes for relevant departments
  • Providing periodic reports on actual results and insights into revenue and cost drivers
  • Conducting monthly reforecasts of costs and revenue, considering changes in commercial metrics and emerging risks and opportunities
  • Facilitating the annual budgeting process with strong collaboration with Commercial teams to ensure departmental ownership of the plan
  • Acting as a key member of the Commercial team, leading financial discussions within the departments
  • Co-developing business cases for investments and initiatives, with a comprehensive understanding of the financial implications of proposed changes
  • Gaining a thorough understanding of airline economics and financial drivers within Commercial functions
  • Integrating airline financials, commercial drivers, and operational statistics to deliver analyses on key financial performance indicators
  • Engaging regularly with Department General Managers to drive improvements and transformations
  • Ideating and implementing revenue enhancement and cost reduction strategies as part of the transformation support within the commercial organization

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, or a related field
  • Significant experience in Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) or an analytics-focused role, or equivalent experience in Management Consulting or a Big 4 firm
  • Proven experience in a fast-paced, high-demand environment
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with senior stakeholders and present findings to General Managers
  • Advanced financial modeling skills (Expert Excel) and a practical approach to producing revenue and cost estimates under tight deadlines
  • Strong presentation abilities (PowerPoint proficiency and stakeholder engagement)
  • Experience in project management
  • Capacity to quickly grasp complex concepts and models, translating analysis into clear, understandable outputs
  • Familiarity with working in an ASX 200/public company and understanding the economic drivers in commercial divisions
