Expert Tax Associate - Strategic Dispute Resolution

Our client is a forward-thinking business with over 15 years of experience in the legal industry.

About the Role

Reporting to the General Manager, this position involves managing taxation disputes end-to-end, including audits, ATO negotiations and court appeals. Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing tax disputes from initiation to resolution, involving audit representation and negotiation with the ATO.
  • Providing expert advice on complex taxation matters, including CGT, superannuation and related commercial documentation.
  • Drafting and advising on estate planning, trusts deeds, superannuation, international tax and CGT.
  • Mentoring and supporting graduate lawyers in their career development.
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for clients and relevant parties, ensuring timely communication and updates.
  • Negotiating on behalf of clients and managing expectations.
  • Participating in mediations and counsel conferences.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to share knowledge and maintain a cohesive team environment.
  • Establishing long-term relationships with clients and stakeholders through exceptional customer service.
  • Attending networking events and providing information sessions for community and professional groups.
About You

We are seeking a self-motivated and forward-thinking individual with a strong passion for assisting clients and driving team success.

  • Relevant Australian-recognised law degree with admission to practice law in South Australia and an unrestricted practicing certificate.
  • Masters of Taxation or equivalent qualification highly desirable.
  • A minimum of 5 years post-admission experience.
  • Commercial acumen with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong prioritisation, organisation and time management skills to meet objectives.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Advocacy and negotiation skills with high levels of discretion and ethical judgement.
  • Ability to adhere to policies, procedures and protocols while being flexible and empathetic towards customer needs.
