About the Role

The Research Contracts Officer is responsible for expediting and streamlining the review, administration, management, and processing of legal agreements for research projects.

This involves efficiently preparing, reviewing, negotiating, and arranging execution of research contracts to ensure UniSA's contractual responsibilities are met, while minimising risk exposure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic advice and guidance on research agreements and funding rules, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Manage research agreements from initial negotiation to execution, including drafting bespoke clauses or agreements as required.
  • Ensure appropriate approvals are in place before finalisation, confirming that research project level information is complete and correct, and researchers have a full understanding of contractual milestones and obligations.
  • Liaise with professional service areas to negotiate and administer research contracts, briefing signatories and obtaining specialist advice where necessary.
  • Negotiate with granting agencies, partner research organisations, industry partners, and researchers.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • A tertiary law degree or recognised qualifications in law, paralegal, or business, with demonstrated experience in contract review, advice, drafting, negotiation, and administration.
  • A good working knowledge of contract law and commercial contracting, with ability to critique legal documents and provide feedback to stakeholders.
  • Ability to interpret funding rules and guidelines, identifying key risk issues and considerations in the research context.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in drafting or negotiating bespoke research agreements or contractual terms.
