
Electrical Automation Specialist

This is a challenging role for an experienced electrical engineer to take on at our Newcastle Rod Mill.
As part of our high-performance team, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing our MES Automation Layer and other critical automation systems that support safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
Working closely with cross-functional teams in production, maintenance, and process improvement, you will:
- Provide technical support for PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, sensors, drives, and advanced instrumentation
- Troubleshoot breakdowns and investigate root causes to drive long-term reliability improvements
- Collaborate with production, maintenance, and process teams to optimise control and tracking systems
- Assist in implementing machine learning, vision systems, and other digital transformation initiatives
- Support system upgrades and ensure all changes are well-documented and aligned with business standards
- Contribute to the development of maintenance strategies and manage critical spares and system documentation
- Work across MES system interfaces (including PSI and SAP EWM) to ensure seamless production tracking
To succeed in this role, you will bring strong technical expertise in industrial automation and control systems, with a proactive and hands-on approach to problem-solving.
The ideal candidate will have a degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Automation Engineering, experience working with industrial control systems (PLCs, HMIs, SCADA), safety as a core value, strong troubleshooting skills, and familiarity with MES systems, process automation, or data-driven technologies.
