About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Biochemistry Scientist to lead our laboratory operations and drive excellence in testing and development.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in biochemistry and laboratory management, with a proven track record of leading high-performing teams and driving quality and workflow improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the department's annual operating plan and financial budgets
  • Monitor and report on monthly financial KPIs
  • Prepare and submit recommendations for capital expenditure
  • Ensure staff numbers for the department meet business requirements and KPIs
  • Oversight of departmental testing, development and validation of methods
  • Maintain current scientific knowledge via appropriate resources
  • Ensure all work practices and procedures are in place and followed by all department employees
  • Proactively drive quality and workflow improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with P&C to manage the recruitment and selection of all department employees

About You

To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the following essential requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent
  • 6 years' experience as a senior scientist in a related field with exposure across pathology
  • Minimum 2 years in a senior supervisory role with management of rosters, KPIs, turnaround times and performance management
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide staff
  • Self-initiative and problem-solving capabilities
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation in laboratory practices
  • Ability to foster a collaborative environment that encourages teamwork and knowledge sharing
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
