Senior Family Lawyer

The role of a senior lawyer in family law involves representing the interests of clients in complex and challenging matters.

  • Key responsibilities include preparing cases, instructing counsel, and appearing as an advocate in family law proceedings.
  • As a member of the Independent Children's Lawyer panel, the position requires protecting the best interests of children in family law matters.
  • Duty lawyer services will be provided, including legal information, advice, and referrals to support clients.
  • The successful candidate will also contribute to coaching and developing the legal skills of staff within the team and external practitioners.
  • Policy changes, procedures, and systems will be advised upon as needed, with operational reporting requirements fulfilled.
  • Continuing professional development will be developed and delivered to Legal Aid Queensland staff and preferred suppliers.

Essential Requirements:

  • Extensive experience is required in family law, domestic and family violence, child protection, and related areas.
  • In-depth knowledge of practice and procedure, as well as ethical standards, is necessary.
  • Excellent communication skills are required, along with the ability to engage effectively with clients and stakeholders using trauma-informed practice principles.
  • A proven ability to build and sustain relationships, coach, and develop staff, and demonstrate a growth mindset in challenging environments is essential.
