Job Overview:

A Roofing Specialist will be responsible for applying roofing materials to provide a durable and watertight surface.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Determine the necessary materials, tools, and methods required for roofing tasks by studying architectural drawings and specifications
  • Erect scaffolding, ladders, and safety equipment to ensure safe access to roofs
  • Apply waterproof sheeting over eaves to protect structures from water damage
  • Nail or staple roofing underlay to roof surfaces as a base layer
  • Align and secure starter rows of tiles or shingles along the roof's edge using nails, staples, or wire, and continue layering upward with proper overlap
  • Cut tiles and roofing materials to fit around chimneys, skylights, vents, ridges, and other roof features
  • Fix ridge and edge tiles in cement mortar to ensure proper sealing and a clean finish
  • Install roofing materials under pre-installed flashing and fasten into place to maintain waterproofing
  • Caulk and flash over exposed nail heads and joints to prevent water infiltration
  • Inspect completed roof areas to ensure alignment, weatherproofing, and compliance with project requirements
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and clean-up of work areas after completion

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Completed Certificate III in Roof Tiling (or equivalent) with at least two years of on-the-job training
  • Alternatively, three years of relevant work experience may substitute for formal qualifications
  • ANZSCO Skill Level 3
  • Proven experience in roof tiling, with the ability to handle different roofing materials including tiles, shingles, and sheets
  • Strong understanding of roofing systems, underlay installation, flashing, and waterproofing techniques
  • Ability to work safely at heights with knowledge of safety procedures and equipment
  • Physical fitness to lift, carry, and maneuver heavy materials
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow design specifications and installation plans
