About the Role

We are seeking an experienced English literature educator to join our team as a VCE English Teacher at a prestigious Independent Catholic Girls' School in Melbourne's West. This full-time position, commencing in 2025, involves guiding Year 12 students through their final year of English studies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and deliver lessons aligning with the VCE English curriculum, focusing on key concepts, texts, and skills prescribed for Units 1-4.
  • Select suitable texts for study based on VCAA guidelines, including novels, plays, poetry, and non-fiction.
  • Teach students how to critically analyse these texts, exploring themes, characters, literary techniques, and socio-cultural contexts.
  • Guide students in writing analytical essays, structuring arguments, incorporating textual evidence, and developing critical interpretations.
  • Instruct students in analysing language use in various texts, including media articles, speeches, and advertisements.
  • Facilitate class discussions, debates, and oral presentations to develop students' oral communication skills and critical thinking abilities.
  • Plan and implement strategies to prepare students for VCE English examinations, including the end-of-year exam (Units 3-4).
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share resources, strategies, and best practices for teaching VCE English effectively.
Requirements:
  • Must hold unrestricted working rights in Australia.
  • Current VIT registration is essential.
  • Demonstrate previous experience teaching English at VCE level in Australia.
  • Catholic school experience is advantageous.
  • Ability to provide contact details for two education-based references from within the last five years.

  • A competitive salary estimated at $110,000 - $130,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
