
Electrical Automation Specialist

The Electrical Systems Technician role supports the Maintenance team by conducting tests on electrical systems, preparing technical documentation and assisting with cost estimations. This hands-on role requires close coordination with internal teams, contractors and equipment suppliers.
This position plays a key role in maintaining and improving the performance of electrical and automation systems across the site. The Technician will also contribute to the delivery of automation and capital projects, including the integration of new systems and support for international site expansions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparing electrical drawings, schematics and layout plans for installations and control systems.
- Assisting in the design and configuration of motor control centres, switchgear and cabling systems.
- Collecting data, conducting testing and calculations and producing supporting charts and documentation.
- Estimating quantities and material costs for planned works.
- Inspecting designs and completed installations to ensure they meet regulatory and specification requirements.
- Assembling, installing, testing, calibrating and modifying electrical and mechanical systems and components.
- Completing electrical workshop tasks, including installing assemblies for relays, metering and indicators.
- Supporting R&D, trials and prototype testing where required.
- Identifying opportunities for process automation and control system improvements and implementing changes with minimal disruption to operations.
- Supervising the installation and commissioning of new or modified machinery and systems, ensuring integration with existing controls.
- Providing PLC/SCADA programming support for project work and optimisation initiatives.
- Oversighting and coordinating work completed by external contractors, including managing labour, materials and timelines.
- Conducting I/O testing and troubleshooting prior to commissioning new systems.
- Working with third-party vendors to oversee automation project delivery and ensure correct integration with site systems.
- Supporting the planning and delivery of factory projects in international locations, including electrical layout review, commissioning readiness and remote or on-site support.
Requirements:
- An electrical trade qualification or relevant Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
- Solid hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally FMCG or food & beverage.
- DIRECT EXPERIENCE WITH KRONES EQUIPMENT AND FAMILIARITY WITH OEM-SUPPLIED SYSTEMS.
- Competence in pneumatic systems and associated control logic.
- Strong knowledge of automation, PLC/SCADA systems and industrial electrical standards.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics.
- Demonstrated project support skills, particularly relating to contractor supervision and commissioning.
- Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding capabilities.
- Good communication and documentation skills.
- Willingsness to support project delivery at other company locations (including international travel if required).
