Job Overview:

The Resident Medical Officer is responsible for the effective clinical management of patients under appropriate supervision.

This includes supervised general medical management of patients admitted to specialist departments, patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures and maintaining adequate medical records.

This role also involves coordinating the admission, management and discharge planning of patients, communicating with patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Coordinate admissions, manage and plan discharges for patients.
  2. Undertake initial assessments including patient history, physical examination, formulating a management plan and ordering investigations.
  3. Communicate and coordinate care with the team, arranging consultations when necessary.
  4. Day-to-day management of patients, communication with patients and their families.
  5. Arrange discharge and liaison with local medical officers and community-based care providers.
Essential Requirements:
  • MBBS or equivalent, registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate category.
  • Eligibility for Level 2 supervision or above.
  • A minimum of one year's postgraduate experience.
  • A valid Working with Children Check, National Police Check.
  • Vaccination to comply with NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy.

  • Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements.
  • Ability to work independently within a complex clinical environment, utilising excellent clinical skills and expertise.
  • Effective collaboration as part of a multi-disciplinary team with understanding of roles within the healthcare team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective communication with patients, families and healthcare teams.
  • Commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  • Continuing professional development and self-education commitment.
