Off Grid Sustainability Volunteer

This is an exciting chance to participate in a non-profit organization's conservation efforts in New Zealand, dedicated to protecting the country's unique native flora and fauna. As a volunteer, you will be involved in various conservation and monitoring techniques, including tracking, bait stations, kiwi and kokako monitoring, bat, lizard, and freshwater fish monitoring, data entry, weeding and planting the herb garden, building and landscaping, and chopping wood.
The role requires adaptability, as the weather will always be a contributing factor to daily activities. Volunteers with can-do attitudes are sought after for this position.
Key responsibilities include:
- Participating in hands-on conservation work in different forests, each with its unique characteristics.
- Learng about sustainability and living off-grid.
- Having the opportunity to see endangered species in the wild and explore areas closed to the general public.
- Engaging in self-discovery through immersion in a remote forest setting.
Working conditions are as follows:
- 8 am - 9 am: Breakfast
- 9 am - 9:30 am: Clean-up
- 10 am - 12 pm: Morning work activities
- 12 pm - 1 pm: Lunch (indoors or picnic-style)
- 1 pm - 4 pm: Afternoon working activities
- 4 pm - 6 pm: Free time/leisure time
- 6 pm - 8 pm: Dinner
- 8 pm - 10 pm: Leisure activities-sunset watching, soccer, dusk bird chorus
Adaptability is required due to the unpredictable nature of the weather. There will also be plenty of time to explore the surrounding areas of our location in New Zealand.
