Subsurface Geologist Opportunity

We are seeking a Subsurface Geologist to join our team and contribute to the development of our Coal Seam Gas (CSG) producing asset in Queensland.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will apply geoscience expertise to support field development, well delivery, and production optimisation as an individual technical contributor. Working collaboratively within an integrated team, you will take ownership of key subsurface projects and ensure consistent application of geoscience standards and best practices.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Apply production geology expertise to deliver technical projects and support ongoing field development.
  • Conduct CSG reservoir characterisation, lithostratigraphic well correlations, and volumetric assessments.
  • Deliver static subsurface reservoir models for CBM reservoirs and support multi-scenario modelling.
  • Contribute to safe and effective well planning and abandonment operations through geological input.
  • Closely collaborate with Subsurface, Tenures, Production, Commercial and Engineering teams.
  • Present analysis and recommendations at peer reviews and technical assurance sessions.
  • Document evaluations and manage data in accordance with Shell technical standards.
  • Promote a culture of Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) awareness and identify risks relevant to geoscience operations and office activities.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated geoscience experience in CSG/CBM production environments.
  • Proven track record in:
    • Reservoir characterisation
    • Lithostratigraphic well correlations
    • Integrated well/reservoir performance assessments
    • Static modelling
    • Volumetric estimation
    • WRFM support
  • Experience in well planning and delivery (including P&A wells).
  • A strong working knowledge of Petrel; Python scripting skills highly regarded.
  • A background in Surat Basin geology is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work autonomously and coach junior geoscientists as needed.
