Financial Controller Role Overview

Job Description

As a seasoned Financial Controller, you will lead the end-to-end ownership of financial governance, reporting, and compliance for our organization. This critical role requires exceptional leadership skills to drive month-end processes, oversee tax and payroll obligations, manage cash flow, and facilitate process improvement.

  • Cash Flow & Treasury Management: You will be responsible for managing weekly cash flow forecasting and reporting, as well as approving supplier, PAYG, and statutory payments.
  • Payroll Oversight: Review and approve permanent, healthcare, and contractor payroll, sign off on monthly super and payroll tax, and lead annual Payroll Tax and WorkCover reconciliations.
  • Financial Close & Reporting: Drive timely month-end processes across all entities, including regular Balance Sheet reconciliations, and report on P&L and Balance Sheet for each entity in the organization.
  • Tax & Advisory Services: Collaborate with external accountants on tax strategy and compliance, manage financial statement queries, and stay current with regulatory changes.
  • Accounts Receivable & Credit Management: Review aged receivables, manage overdue accounts, and lead discussions with executives to support revenue collection.
  • Governance & Process Improvement: Manage and maintain all finance policies and procedures to ensure they protect company assets and are optimally efficient.
  • Compliance & Risk Management: Help manage and mitigate risk, and ensure delegation of authority rules are applied.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Play a key part in bi-annual budget processes and track actual performance against targets.
Qualifications and Experience
  • CA/CPA qualified or equivalent.
  • 10+ years' experience in financial control or senior management accounting roles, preferably in multi-entity or professional services environments.
  • Deep working knowledge of Australian taxation (GST/BAS, FBT, payroll tax, super, PRT, WorkCover).
  • Demonstrated success in cash flow forecasting, debtor finance management, and facilities and treasury management.
  • Proven track record of leading month-end processes and liaising with external stakeholders.
  • Experience in or an understanding of the recruitment or staffing industry would be highly regarded.
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of managing multidisciplinary teams with both local and offshore team members.
